Jammu celebrates Gurpurab with religious fervour

Jammu, Nov 5 (UNI) The ‘City of Temples’ on Wednesday celebrated Gurpurab, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji here with religious fervour and gaiety.
Attired in colourful dresses, members of the Sikh community including women and children this morning, thronged Gurudwaras, religious congregations and offered special prayers.
The main function was held here at Gurdwara Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, situated in the heart of the city.
Thousands of Sikhs from different parts of the city and outskirts visited the Gurudwara to join the prayers while special langar (community kitchen) was also organised for the devotees.
Restrictions on traffic were imposed around the venue where main function was held while tight security arrangements were also made for incident free celebrations.
The Prakash Utsav is one of the most important festivals of Sikh community.
Ragis and Jathas recited Shabad Keertans that stressed on imbibing the higher values of life and communal harmony for which Guru Nanak Dev Ji strived.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Dev.
In his message, the Lieutenant Governor said: “On the auspicious occasion of the Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Dev, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all. Guru Nanak Dev’s life and message of equality, love, brotherhood, compassion and truthfulness is an inspiration for all humanity.”
“Guru Nanak Dev taught us to lead a virtuous and noble life. His Prakash Parv is an occasion to rededicate ourselves to the task of creating a just, fair and humane society and practice the revered Guru's noble teachings in our daily lives. Let us take a pledge to work with dedication and commitment to root out any divisive tendencies in our society and uphold the universal values of peace and harmony,” Sinha said.
However, President JKPCC Tariq Hameed Karra alongwith other senior leaders also joined Gurpurab celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj here at Gurudawara Chand Kour.
They paid obeisance and prayed for peace, harmony and brotherhood. The Prabandak committee felicitated the PCC President and other dignitaries by presenting them Saropa.
In his message, Karra described the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev as based on humanity, love, affection and mutual co- existence in this universe.
He said that Guru Nanak ji gave the message against hatred amongst humans of different race, caste, religion or region.
